DLP builds the first hazelnut shelling plant in South America

Santiago, November 2014.- DLP has recently started the construction of a hazelnut shelling plant for Ferrero Rocher Chocolatier in a 4,000m2 area located in the community of Camarico in the VII region.

In this plant, the Italian Chocolatier will remove the shells from the hazelnuts harvested in the south of our country and then ship them to their chocolate plant where they make Ferrero Rocher chocolates, Kinder Sorpresa and their well-known hazelnut spread, Nutella®.

Eduardo Rippes, the site and project manager has stated that “the biggest challenge has been to comply with the special requirements and regulations of the Chocolatier Company; with their machines and imported-colored painting.”

The work considers the construction of a 4,197m² storehouse, with a metallic structure, polyurethane coatings, and industrial asphalt flooring. At the same time, the construction will be equipped with a 2,000kV electric generator which involves major engineering work in order to make it work.

The exterior considers perimeter roads, truck platforms, a plant for wastewater treatment and the construction of the lean concrete for the silos storing the hazelnuts.

An average of 120 workers will be involved in this construction which in turn, is expected to be finished by the end of 2015.
